This Calendar has many aspects: a basic introduction to astronomy, a simple ephemeris, a planting guide, a star map, aid for following the movement of the planets in the night sky, and articles by ten different authors. All of these attempt to provide a true picture of the world outside us and ideas to assist in developing a healthy relation to that world.

Our New Articles Will Inspire and Guide

Writing in her introduction to this year's calendar, Sherry Wildfeuer notes:

In this Calendar, you will find guidance for choosing optimal sowing dates for your annual root, leaf, flower and fruit crops. This will help you achieve the quality of produce you hope for by harmonizing the timing of your work with the rhythms of the Moon, so essential for our life on earth.

The articles, while of course varying in content, address a common theme of how to discover and cultivate our human potential—in our inner lives and in our activities together and on the land. I hope you will take the time to read the three articles in the front that explore the three core virtues that make us truly human; the importance of having a spiritual worldview; and the necessary conditions for life-enhancing forms of technology in the future. Other authors address how to find ways to connect more deeply with the land as individuals, in communal festivals, and in educational settings with children, and a beekeeper dealing with mites and hive beetles writes about a biodynamic form of pest control. One author alerts us to the discomforting realities behind the manufacturing of even 'green' electronic technologies, and gives helpful suggestions for changing our lives to make our actions less destructive and more social. Two important initiatives are described that seek to link wholesome endeavors in agriculture, medicine and the arts, and which offer diverse programs to foster health and well-being.

Since 1978 I have been asking ten to twelve people every year to write for the Calendar. Biodynamic conferences and workshops have been wonderful opportunities to meet new authors. With so many in-person gatherings cancelled this year, I decided to look into some back issues and see which articles have stood the test of time and would still be relevant. I selected a marvelous one called "Throwing the Witch in the Oven" by a Norwegian professor who shows the way from a purely materialistic view of nature to a healing of nature, ourselves and agriculture. It is a treasure.

I hope you will be nourished by the produce from your farms and gardens and by the new perspectives you will find in this year's Calendar.
